I am a Member of the European Parliament for Esquerra Republicana.

I was born in the town of Caldes de Montbui, near Barcelona, in 1976. I have lived there most of my life and I was the mayor for 12 years. I am married and have two daughters. I have a degree in Political Science and Administration from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and a master’s degree in European studies from the Viadrina European University in Frankfurt Oder, Germany.

From 2002 to 2007, I worked in Brussels and Strasbourg as an adviser to the MEPs for Esquerra Republicana, of which I have been a member since 2003.

I was elected Mayor of Caldes de Montbui in May 2007 and served for three consecutive terms until June 2019.

In 2011, I assumed responsibility for International Relations on the National Executive of Esquerra Republicana, and in 2012 I became the Secretary General of the European Free Alliance.

In 2012 I was elected a Member of the Parliament of Catalonia, where I chaired the Committee on Foreign Affairs, European Union and Development Cooperation until 2015. In 2016 I joined Catalonia’s Generalitat government as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Institutional Relations and Transparency.

From January 2017 to June 2019 I was a Member of the European Parliament in the Greens-ALE group. In the last term, I was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Budgets, and the Delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee, as well as an alternate member of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, the Subcommittee on Human Rights, the Commission of Inquiry to investigate alleged contraventions and maladministration in the application of Union law in relation to money laundering and tax avoidance and tax evasion—known as the Panama Papers or PANA committee, and the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.

In July 2020 I rejoined the European Parliament as an MEP. In the current term, I am a full member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Human Rights, and an alternate member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. I am also a full member of the Delegation for Relations with the Maghreb countries, the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, and an alternate member of the Delegation for Relations with the People’s Republic of China.
